Keith McGuire a self-taught watercolorist, graphic designer and art teacher. Keith’s works have been strongly influenced by the locations he has lived. West Florida, the hill country of Texas, and the Big Island of Hawaii have nurtured a deep love of nature and a variety of environments. Keith currently resides in Saline, MI, just outside of Ann Arbor.
As a watercolor artist, Keith’s paintings have always leaned toward a realistic interpretation of nature, birds being of the greatest interest. Other interests include his love of texture, granite, lichens on both rock and tree branches, tree roots, old buildings, aged barnwood and rusted metal roofs. Lately, Keith’s interest has turned Back to Florida, trying to find what’s left of the flora and fauna of his youth within the suburban sprawl of Sarasota and Venice, Florida, but he also enjoys painting the beautiful farmscapes around him.
Keith McGuire also teaches watercolors and drawing for both adults and children. Keith has developed a deep passion for passing on what he has learned over 35 years. He also enjoys the fact, he has 2-3 hrs with a captive audience, where his students are forced to listen to his many mis-adventures, and oh yeah, Keith has a lot of them (at least the kid’s like them)! Keith believes in developing good drawing fundamentals in young kids, so they are there for the rest of their lives. Ingrained early, these fundamentals will help them achieve their artistic goals much sooner!
As a graphic designer for many institutions in the Saline area, Keith creates a balance between fine art, graphic design, and teaching that keeps him slightly crazy, but never bored!
